What is an Above Ground Storage Tank?
An above ground storage tank (AST) is a large container usually made of steel and also designed to temporarily store a variety of gas and liquids. Industries can store substances that range from water and crude oil to liquid fertilizer and other chemical products.
One of the numerous standards that apply to ASTs is API 653 “Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration, and Reconstruction.” Developed and published by the American Petroleum Institute (API), this standard offers guidelines on proper inspection, alteration, repair, and reconstruction of an above ground steel tank used in the chemical and petroleum industry. Prior to the year 2000, this was the only standard that applied to all above ground tanks.
Large Above Ground Liquid Tanks
Heartland Tank Companies specializes in constructing above-ground welded carbon and stainless steel liquid storage tanks. With sizes ranging from 100,000 to 4 million gallons (2,380 to 95,238 tons of product), these tanks are field-erected onsite using cranes and expert welders.
Tanks Designed for Your Needs
A particular design of an AST will not work for every situation. First, conditions such as earthquake zones, high winds, and extreme rainfall require design modifications to make the AST safe for operation and to prevent any potential damage to the tank from the extremes the weather may pose. Second, ASTs in different industries require various types of configurations for valves, roofs, and piping based on the product stored.
The design of the tank components is critical, but so is the placement of the tank. Heartland Tank Companies will work with you, using its decades of experience to determine the best location of the tank. Considerations in such decisions are logistics of loading and unloading the tanks, logistics of the operation of the facility in general, and potential future facility expansion.
Heartland Tank, LLC builds field-erected ASTs for the needs of various industries, including agriculture, liquid fertilizer, oil / petroleum, water, asphalt, and food production. Whether you need a new tank, or a cut down and rebuild, Heartland Tank, LLC performs professional work done right every time.
